- Abstract : At Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) cancer patients have been treated with proton beams for more than 30 years. This talk will give an overview of the treatment facility and the different irradiation techniques at PSI. The use of real time technologies as developed, for example, in High Energy Physics has allowed the implementation of innovative scanning techniques. Further attention will be given on the concepts of control and safety that are the basis for PSI's patient safety system, along with some notes on the actual implementation.
