The origin ofthe radioactive isotopes into the environment can be distinguished following to three main categories: radioactive isotopes from the Earth's formation, also called the primordial radioisotopes, radioactive isotopes formed by the interaction of cosmic rays with the Earth's material, the radioactive isotopes are formed by man-made. The isotopes exist in the environment such as soil, water and air and therefore are present in plants, animals, foods for humans.
There searches in this field include:
- Network design of monitoring, sample collection, sample analysis from the laboratory, data estimation...
- Develop processes of gamma spectroscopy analysis, self-absorption correction, summing coincidence estimation, background reduction.
- Develop processes of alphaspectroscopy analysis which includes chemical analysis.
- Develop processes of alpha – total beta spectroscopy analysis, measuring radon, dose rate of gamma in the field.
-Optimized design of the measurements by Monte Carlo methods.
The software used to acquire and analysis are Genie-2000, Gamma Vision and programs for correction such as ANGLE 32 and LABSOCS.
Equipments used in the analysis available in the laboratory are: low background gamma spectroscopy using HPGe detectors, alpha spectroscopy using semiconductor surface barrier detector PIPS, total beta alpha spectroscopy, measurement system for radon - RAD7, dose rate meter – Inspector.
